You may imagine the path to spiritual awakening is one joyous journey involving endless retreats in exotic places, yoga on the beach at sunrise and meditating for hours in the lotus position with the smell of incense wafting on the breeze. If only!

While this may, of course, form part of your experience if you’re lucky, the reality is likely to be rather different…

In my experience, spiritual awakening is tantamount to self-discovery and it’s not always straightforward, or comfortable. You have to WANT to change and be prepared to leave your comfort zone. You have to take responsibility for your life and acknowledge where and who you are, without judgement, before delving deep to release any negative thought patterns and limiting beliefs that no longer serve you.

Like peeling layers off an onion, you may celebrate a breakthrough one day, only to uncover something deeper the next, resulting in an emotional or spiritual detox. However, if you’re able to push through regardless, the transformation you’ll experience as a result will make every moment worth it.

Over the years I’ve battled with self-doubt, limiting beliefs, fear of failure (and success), and for a long time I was unclear of my direction in life and what I ‘should’ be doing. I had a belief I was destined to fulfil a larger purpose, but just what it was I had absolutely no idea, other than wanting to help others. Empathy has always been one of my strengths and I genuinely care about people, but it took me many years to realise I needed to work on myself first!

Since then my journey has taken many twists and turns. Among the good times, there have been others where I’ve felt stretched and tested to the max. I lost my dad to cancer while learning to cope with my mum’s dementia and then only fourteen months later, my younger brother was killed in an accident. More recently my husband has had his own battle with cancer and we faced our biggest challenge to date.

“That which does not kill us makes us stronger.” Friedrich Nietzsche

What I’ve come to appreciate is that it’s often these most difficult times that become our greatest learning experiences and opportunities for growth, although understandably we may not realise it at the time. As I’ve already said, growth isn’t always easy or comfortable. Whatever you desire to be or have in your life, it must be stronger than the urge to just sit tight and stay where you are, or you’ll not be motivated to make the changes necessary.

But one thing is certain. If you continue old patterns and behaviours then you absolutely cannot expect a different outcome. This is, after all, the definition of insanity!

For every challenge I encountered and at every crossroads I reached, I was presented with an opportunity to learn and grow, or to shrink back in fear. In the early days it was very much the latter, but the more I worked on my mindset, personal development and spiritual growth, the more I noticed positive steps forward. With this growth came newfound confidence to keep going, to continue the work and my journey. And this is what it takes. One step at a time. Life is a journey and not a destination and we have to take the ups with the downs, it is all part of our learning process and necessary to mould us into the person we’re meant to be.

If you yearn to find your true calling then getting up, close and personal with yourself is all part of it. True happiness comes from within and the sooner you can connect to your higher self and Source Energy, the more you’ll realise this and develop spiritually. But you must learn to go easy on yourself and be prepared for the long haul, as the learning never actually stops. We are all constantly evolving and growing. But the Universe will deliver. Provided you tune in properly and are a vibrational match to what you want to attract into your life, self-mastery and miracles are yours for the taking.

Have faith, trust that the Universe always conspires to help you and surrender to the process. If things aren’t going to plan at the moment, understand this is all part of a bigger picture. You are exactly where you’re meant to be right now. If you’re working through a challenge then take comfort from the fact this could mean you’re clearing the energetic space for great things to come.

Just stick with it, but make sure you’re looking after yourself too. As we continue our journey together I’ll introduce you to various tools and techniques to help you on your way.

So, are you ready?

Congratulate yourself for taking the first step.

It’s time to embrace YOUR SECRET POWER!
